GORDON BROWN had his 30 mins party political broadcast on Andrew Marr this morning, (next week it’s David Cameron’s turn – the general election campaigns are well under way) but Gordon shed some real light on what the up and coming general election would be fought on – his age of ‘aspiration, inspiration, and prosperity,’ versus David Cameron’s ‘age of austerity.’
He told Marr the best way to achieve British growth was to invest in new tecnologies, including the digital and low carbon technologie, and he anticipated that a million more jobs would be created by these new advances. Despite Britain having the biggest deficit, Brown said taxing and spending was the way of cutting the deficit quicker, rather than the Tory plans of saving, which would mean that Britain would come out of recession longer, Brown claimed. He was in quite an argumentative mood with Marr today.
Gordon ended by shrugging off his Tory toff comments made last year in Prime minister’s questions, when he accused Tory policies (particularly Inheritance Tax) of being dreamt up on the playing fields of Eton, as just a Commons joke. And said he doesn’t attack Cameron for being a toff, he only attacks him for making the wrong decisions on the economy. Gordon chuckled all the way through when he was saying that. You can always tell when Gordon doesn’t believe what he is saying because he grins falsely….
Interestingly, Gordon looked nervous in the first interview of the New Year. He still gave no hint to Marr of when that election would be, and certainly wasn’t in the mood for discussing Labour trivia. Not sure why Gordon couldn’t just come out and say who was going to be running his campaign. We all know it’s Lord Mandelson who is pulling the strings….
On a more fun note, TP wants you to finish off these three sentences:
“I want Gordon Brown to be Prime minister because…………………………………….
“I want David Cameron to be PM because……………………………………
“I want Nick Clegg to be PM because……………………..
If you can do that, then you truely are a political animal….

Right then…
“I want Gordon Brown to be Prime minister because……he seems to be the only one of the three who has any inkling into how to run a country – Cameron is lost in "rich lala land", and Clegg is lost is "will never win without hung parliament" land. Brown has good plans, thought through policies and if only people would listen to him, a seemingly very genuine nature…which is more than can be said of Cameron. Cameron is kind, a laugh even, but not genuine which is what the UK needs at the top.
“I want David Cameron to be PM because…or rather I DON'T want his to be PM because…well…he has zero well thought out policies. They look good to voters, but when you get into details there's a big problem – there is no detail.
“I want Nick Clegg to be PM because…well…that's just not going to happen is it? Dream on Clegg, dream on.
