++++++++++++++EXCLUSIVE: FRASER NELSON: DON’T GO INTO JOURNALISM, BECAUSE, (HE POINTS TO MAGAZINES), THEY DON’T MAKE ANY MONEY, BUT THIS DOES (MEANING EVENTS)+++++++++++
OK, so we know that journalism is in the doldrums, but what he’s saying is damn spot on – print journalism is slowly dying out. Last night, I had the pleasure to join hundreds of others to an exclusive Spectator magazine editors’ dinner in London (it’s the second time it has been in operation) at the Royal Hospital Gardens, Chelsea. An opportunity to mingle with the fast and the furious of mainstream Tory magazine journalism (even Tory leader candidate loser David Davis turned out). Literally, hundreds turned out to dine with the likes of Andrew Neil, Matthew Parris, and of course, the charming new editor Fraser Nelson.
On my table, was the charming former BEEB political editor Robin Oakley, and the charismatic James Delingpole. Oakley told me that he thought David Miliband was a favourite for replacing Gordon Brown as leader.
The as ever on song Andrew Neil told folk that he predicted the general election would be May 6, 2010, and would be a huge Tory majority. As if we didn’t know…
Highlight of the night though was, just for fun, what Rod Liddle thought of that top political blogger GUIDO FAWKES’, who said: “He’s got some good contacts, but he’s a ghastly writer.”
And don’t get Rod Liddle started on citizen journalism. “Just get rid of it,” he said.
