Hi Chris,
Just looking at your blog via Fleet Street Blues. Noticed that you did a CPE course. I’m a journalism graduate and have been considering this. Just trying to keep my options open… would you recommend it?
Hey there, thanks for looking at the blog. Yes, I originally wanted to do law, and doing the CPE seemed the way to go. It’s well worth doing – but I do warn you that if you are thinking of going into law, like journalism, it is a competitive industry. I would say from a knowledge base the course is useful. But it won’t necessarily guarantee you a legal job after. You have to do the LPC course (Legal Practice Course after CPE, and that is thousands of pounds. SO I’d think carefully if it’s law you want to do. Other than that having as much knowledge as poss is always and advantage.

Thanks for that. Is it difficult to get a place on an LPC or BVC and then get a pupillage after that? I have basically become disillusioned with journalism now, having spent the last two years trying to get a trainee position on a local paper!
Keep up to date with the blog, if you like it. If you fancy writing some stuff in your spare time, you could always write the odd article and post it to me and I’ll put it on here.
It’s a struggle getting into journalism, that’s why I’ve decided to set up this as either a full time or part time thing. I can well sympathise with you as I’ve been in the same position as you now for three years or so….keep going, and good luck with what ever it is you decide to do.
