Balls and Brown, the silent couple

The Tory leader makes clear it’s unacceptable and shines a light on two schools, one in Tottenham, and one in Slough, that were allegedly given hundreds of thousands of public funds and, allegedly, are extremist sympathisers with an extremist group that Tony Blair promised would be banned, they are none other than Hizb ut tahrir – a group known for their despisement of jews.

Gordon told the House that he was not aware of this and that he would look in to it – he said it was important not to jump on the bandwagon, and to obtain the facts before making a judgement. The revelation came after the Shadow schools minister Michael Gove wrote to Ed Balls this week, making him aware of this scandal. Gordon seemed shocked by it. David Cameron scored a direct hit with Brown by this revelation today. The PM looked hot under the collar, and couldn’t really say much, if he had not been informed by ministers.

Buddies Gordon and Ed obviously don’t communicate much these days. Gordon’s clunking fist of power is slowly being eroded away. Former Home secretary Jacqui Smith was squirming under the interrogation of Andy Neil on the Daily Politics. Smith said that she was not made aware of some cases of extremism under her watch, but that she said it was wrong, if there had been misuse of public money gone to fund extremist organisations such as HizBukTeria.

As they say in journalism, this story will run and run and run.
